What is repentance?

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord Acts 3:19; I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent Luke 15:19.

Many understand the term repentance to mean “a turning from sin.” Regretting sin and turning from it is related to repentance, but it is not the precise meaning of the word. In the Bible, the word repent means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions (Luke 3:8–14; Acts 3:19). In summarizing his ministry, Paul declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds” (Acts 26:20). The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action.

"I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance". Luke 5:32

So let's be honest . . . Maybe we've grown up in church, have friends and family who attend church so we know of God and being saved but the questions is, are you? A lot of people believe one simple prayer is the key for your pass into Heaven but that's not entirely true, it's not even biblically correct. Jesus himself says “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew 7:21. So what does that mean you ask? We can say yes Lord, I'm aware I am a sinner and ask you to forgive me of me sins. Does that make you saved? Well yes, so to speak. You've accept Jesus as your Savior and believe in him and made aware you are a sinner but what do you do from there? If you're saved but commit adulatory will you still go to Heaven? what about if you lie, cheat, steal, hate one another, envy people, lie on people . . . will you still go to Heaven because you said the prayer, you're saved so that protects you from hell right? WRONG. I hate to tell you but Preachers themselves are capable of going to hell .. that's why it's so important to REPENT, turn away from our sins. Do what is pleasing and Holy in God's eyes. How do you know what is required of us? By reading your bible, praying that God opens your heart and your mind to the word. Asking for guidance and wisdom. You can do it, I know you can! The more you connect with God the less you want what's of this world, trust me.
